About Us

  HISTORY

The Lowell Open Pantry was started in 1981 from an outgrowth of local church groups who saw a need in the community for short-term food assistance.  The Pantry was originally designed to accommodate those persons not qualifying for other programs, thus making this a last resort.  Currently, clients can return to the Open Pantry every 30 days.

The Lowell Open Pantry has operated as an independent non-profit organization for over 20 years.

   OUR ORGANIZATION

The Pantry has a dedicated volunteer staff.  Daily operations are supervised by our Executive Director.  Eighteen board members represent a variety of faiths and interests and are drawn from several area communities.  The board members are elected for three year terms and meet regularly to provide administrative direction

  COMMUNITY SUPPORT

The Open Pantry receives much of its support from local churches.  In addition to monetary donations, some churches have food collection boxes or set aside a specific Sunday each month for parishioners to bring food.   We also receive donations from individuals and businesses.  Grant money is also a good source of revenue.
